SPSS Status Update:

  • UCOP and the 10 member UC campuses are reviewing Requests for Quotations on 2/28/08.
  • UCOP is still in negotiations with SPSS for new licenses to cover the remainder of the current licensing period. Recent quotes have been very expensive. Please check here periodically for updates.
  • For those licensees who have an active SPSS license for 2007-2008 and need to upgrade from version 15.0 to v. 16.0 please send your active v. 15.0 serial number to products@berkeley.edu. At no charge, we will exchange your active v.15.0 serial number for a v. 16.0 serial number.
  • Existing licensees may download v. 16.0 for Windows from this site which requires CalNet authentication.


    • Currently new and renewal licenses are NOT available for sale.


    We want to keep you advised of the current situation with SPSS. In placing a new volume order for SPSS licenses on behalf of U.C. Berkeley, we found that the price has increased 400% so that it now costs $221 per new license. Our office found this price increase unacceptable and has tried negotiating with SPSS on behalf of the campus. U.C. Berkeley's Manager of Strategic Technology Acquisition and UCOP are intervening on behalf of U.C. Berkeley and the nine other U.C. campuses in order to try and negotiate for a lower price for the software. A negotiation meeting is being scheduled for later this month/early February, so licenses will not be available until February 2008 at the earliest. We will keep you advised of pricing and delivery as we receive more information.

    You can purchase SPSS at an academic price directly from SPSS at the following prices:

    • SPSS Base: $639.00
    • SPSS Advanced: $539.00
    • SPSS Categories: $439.00
    • SPSS Regression: $539.00
    • SPSS Tables: $539.00
    • SPSS Trends: $539.00

    If you purchase directly from SPSS you will not be eligible for renewals from this office and you will need to work directly with SPSS for future needs concerning licenses purchased directly from SPSS.

    The next volume purchase and renewal period will be in May, 2008 for the license period 7/1/08-6/30/09. Software Programs will send out a call for interest in May and order more licenses based on campus interest.
