LICENSE RENEWALS FOR 2010:
- - - - - - - - - - - -- - -
Software Distribution is in the process of renewing current licenses for the January 1, to December 31, 2010 maintenance period. Renewal notices and pricing will be sent out in late November.
We are unable to process orders for new licenses through the Software Central system during the renewal period. If you require a new Matlab seat or additional toolboxes, please contact Software Distribution at 643-9725. We will attempt to obtain a quote for a license that will include next year's maintenance.
IMPORTANT LICENSE INFORMATION FOR 2010
- - - - - - - - - - - -- - -
The Mathworks is making several changes to pricing and licensing, which will be phased in on 1 January 2010 and 1 January 2011. These changes will “streamline pricing structure, normalize pricing worldwide, and put increased emphasis on Total Academic Headcount licensing.”
In addition, IST: Software Distribution is announcing several changes to the way Matlab licenses will be processed, administered and billed during the upcoming renewal period.
- Beginning January 1, 2010 the prices of new Group and Concurrent licenses will increase.
- Beginning January 1, 2010 the prices of Concurrent licenses will increase to be the same as Academic Group license option prices. After this year’s renewal, the price of concurrent license seats and toolboxes will be the same as that of group licenses.
- Academic Concurrent Software Maintenance Service pricing will be calculated on a per license basis. Pricing will no longer be determined based on the cumulative number of concurrent seats at UCB. If you purchase a new or add to an existing license after the renewal period, the price of the Matlab seat or toolbox will be calculated at the quantity price level of your license, not on the aggregated UC license quantity. Eg. If you purchase 1 new Matlab the price will be based on the quantity 1, not the total quantity of Matlab seats Software Distribution administers. This has the potential to significantly raise prices on new licenses or additional toolboxes.
- A license transfer fee may apply when moving seats from one concurrent license to another and will be determined based on the difference between:
The quantity price level associated with the number of seats on the source license; and
The quantity price level associated with the number of seats being transferred.
This means if Software Distribution moves 1 seat from it's license pool to create a license for you, the price will be the same a 1 seat license, not the price of 1 seat in the larger pool license.
- Software Distribution has historically purchased more licenses than are distributed during the renewal period. This gave us a pool of licenses at renewal pricing that we could sell during the year at a low price to end users. Under the new policy, if you purchase a Concurrent Matlab seat or toolbox from our pool, a transfer fee will be assessed that will in effect raise the price to the quantity level of your license, not the quantity of our pool license. This does not effect our group license pool.
- Software Distribution will no longer purchase extra licenses at renewal pricing for distribution during the year. New licenses purchased during the year will be charged according to the Mathworks Academic pricing schedule.
- This year’s renewal process will not be performed using the old Software Distribution renewal method. The software and hardware for the system is old and making errors. Copies of licenses will be emailed to the contact on record at Mathworks along with a new billing form. Send the form(s) back to Software Distribution. Licenses not renewed by January 31, 2010 will be turned over to the pool and may be distributed to other campus users requesting new licenses.
